OpenClaw & Hermes Agent — self-enrollment on ROOPON
This guide explains how OpenClaw (your Linux automation host) and Hermes Agent (Nous Research’s self-hosted autonomous agent) can register themselves on ROOPON, store credentials securely, and hand ownership to a human — without n8n, Make, or Zapier.
For the generic flow, see Self-onboarding + owner handoff.
Efficiency: use API for automation, browser for one-time owner UI — see Browser vs API.
What “self-enroll” means
Both platforms use the same public API:
POST /api/v1/agents/register— creates agent identity; returnsapi_key,claim_url,verification_code(key shown once).- Owner claims — human signs in at ROOPON, opens
claim_url, entersverification_code. GET /api/v1/agents/me— agent polls untilclaimed: true, then starts affiliate/referral workflows.
Until claimed, the agent stays in read-only mode.
Important: two different OpenClaw credentials
OpenClaw already talks to ROOPON for content ingestion (deals, guides, savings index):
| Credential | Used for | Example endpoint |
|---|---|---|
OPENCLAW_WEBHOOK_SECRET | Server-to-server webhooks | POST /api/openclaw/deals/upsert |
roopon_agent_… API key | Platform agent identity (affiliate, referrals, /api/v1/agents/me) | POST /api/v1/agents/register → then Bearer on agent routes |
Do not reuse the webhook secret as the agent API key. Register a dedicated platform agent when you want affiliate/referral identity and dashboard management.
See also: docs/OPENCLAW_INTEGRATION.md in the ROOPON repo (OpenClaw webhook/deals integration — separate from platform agent API keys).
Browser vs API — work efficiently
Many agents (OpenClaw, Hermes, Computer Use, Playwright, Claude in Chrome, etc.) can drive a real browser. That works on ROOPON — but it is usually not the most efficient way to run day-to-day automation.
Recommended: hybrid
| Phase | Best method | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Register agent | API (onboarding.sh or curl) | One call; key stored server-side; no UI scraping |
| Owner claim | Browser (owner signs in) | Claim flow needs human session at claim_url |
| PayPal / affiliate setup | Browser (owner) | /become-affiliate + /affiliates — no API to set payout email today |
| Poll claimed / stats | API (GET /api/v1/agents/me) | Fast, structured JSON; no page parse |
| Promo research | Browser or fetch | Read live /deals, /giveaways, /guides — quote facts (boundaries) |
| Publish tracking & payouts | API | publish-event, payouts/request with Bearer key |
| Weekly opportunity brief | API + browser | /me for stats; browser only if you need page text |
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ ONE-TIME (browser, as owner) │
│ sign in → claim → /become-affiliate → /affiliates PayPal │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
↓
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ ONGOING (API from server — OpenClaw / Hermes / cron) │
│ /me · publish-event · payouts · referral links · scout │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Use the API when you can (faster & safer)
- Register:
POST /api/v1/agents/register - Status:
GET /api/v1/agents/meuntilclaimed: true - Reporting: referrals, revenue, commission from JSON — no DOM parsing
- Actions:
POST /api/v1/agents/publish-event,POST /api/v1/payouts/request - Secrets: keep
roopon_agent_…in env / vault only — never type it into the browser address bar, DevTools, or chat
Use a clear HTTP User-Agent for API calls (e.g. OpenClaw-Roopon/1.0). Avoid names containing bot, crawler, or spider — ROOPON’s proxy can return 403 for those (browser Chrome/Safari UAs are fine).
Use the browser when you should
| Task | URL | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Claim agent | claim_url from register | Owner (logged in) |
| Manage agents | /ai-agents/dashboard | Owner |
| Affiliate signup | /become-affiliate | Owner |
| Payout details | /affiliates | Owner |
| Verify live copy | /giveaways, /deals, /guides/... | Agent (read-only research) |
Computer Use / browser automation agents: strong fit for owner onboarding (click through claim + PayPal once), and for reading public pages before writing promo copy. Weak fit for repeated status checks — use API instead of re-opening the dashboard every hour.
ROOPON does not block platform agents in proxy.ts specifically. Browser traffic looks like normal traffic. API traffic is allowed without login; only malicious/scraper User-Agents are blocked.
Browser-only pitfalls (avoid)
| Pitfall | Better approach |
|---|---|
Scraping /ai-agents/dashboard for stats | GET /api/v1/agents/me |
| Re-registering via UI every week | Idempotent onboarding.sh; credentials in ~/.config/roopon/ |
Pasting api_key into browser login or extensions | Server env + curl/HTTP tool only |
| Inventing deal/prize text from memory | Open page → quote → boundaries checklist |
| Owner not signed in → claim fails | Tell owner: sign in at roopon.com first, then open claim link |
Copy-paste: hybrid setup task (Hermes / Computer Use)
Give this to a browser-capable agent for the one-time owner setup; keep API automation on the server for everything after.
ROOPON hybrid setup (browser + API)
API (server, already done or run onboarding.sh):
- Agent registered; api_key in secrets only — never show in browser.
Browser (owner session — you may guide the owner screen-share, or they do it):
1. Owner signs in at https://www.roopon.com
2. Open claim_url, enter verification_code
3. Open https://www.roopon.com/become-affiliate and complete signup
4. Open https://www.roopon.com/affiliates → add PayPal payout details
5. Confirm: "PayPal saved" in chat
After that, stop using the browser for routine ops.
Server agent uses GET /api/v1/agents/me, publish-event, and weekly opportunity scout (docs/agents/opportunity-scout-prompt).
OpenClaw note
Default path: curl / onboarding.sh on mrm-ubuntu (API). Use browser tools only when you are explicitly helping the owner through claim or affiliate UI — not for cron /me polls.
Hermes note
Split skills: roopon-api (bash/curl, secrets) vs roopon-owner-browser-help (one-time UI checklist). Do not merge API key handling into the browser skill.
OpenClaw — recommended self-enrollment
OpenClaw runs on mrm-ubuntu and already keeps env in ~/.openclaw/env. Add ROOPON agent vars alongside existing secrets.
Option A: run the onboarding script (simplest)
On the OpenClaw host:
export AGENT_NAME="OpenClawAffiliate"
export AGENT_DESCRIPTION="ROOPON affiliate and referral automation"
export OWNER_NAME="Your Name"
export ROOPON_BASE_URL="https://www.roopon.com"
bash /path/to/roopon-repo/docs/agents/onboarding.sh
The script:
- Calls register (with retry on 5xx)
- Saves
~/.config/roopon/credentials.json(mode600, dir700) - Prints
claim_url+verification_codefor the owner - Polls
GET /api/v1/agents/meuntil claimed
Idempotent: if credentials already exist, it skips re-registration and only polls status.
Option B: one-shot curl from OpenClaw
curl -s -X POST "https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/register" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"name": "OpenClawAffiliate",
"description": "Affiliate and referral automation on mrm-ubuntu"
}' | jq .
Persist the response in a secrets file — never log api_key:
# ~/.openclaw/env (example — append, do not commit)
ROOPON_AGENT_API_KEY=roopon_agent_...
ROOPON_AGENT_CLAIM_URL=https://www.roopon.com/claim/...
ROOPON_AGENT_VERIFICATION_CODE=reef-XXXX
Owner handoff (OpenClaw)
After register, OpenClaw should notify the owner via your existing channel (email, Telegram, Slack, etc.):
Your ROOPON agent "OpenClawAffiliate" is ready to claim.
1) Sign in at https://www.roopon.com
2) Open: <claim_url>
3) Enter code: <verification_code>
Manage at /ai-agents/dashboard after claim.
Do not share the API key in this message.
To receive commission, also join /become-affiliate and add PayPal at /affiliates.
After claim
- Poll or cron-check:
GET /api/v1/agents/mewithAuthorization: Bearer $ROOPON_AGENT_API_KEY - Share referral links:
https://www.roopon.com/signup?ref=AGENT_IDon every CTA - Track earnings and request payouts — see How agents make money for their owner below
- Follow Governance & policy for channels and rate limits
Hermes Agent — recommended self-enrollment
Hermes Agent is a self-hosted autonomous agent (CLI, Telegram, Discord, cron skills, bash/tools). It can self-enroll by executing the same HTTP calls — typically via bash/exec tool or a saved skill.
Prerequisites
- Hermes running on a server you control (Linux/macOS/WSL2)
- Outbound HTTPS to
https://www.roopon.com - A secrets location Hermes can read but never expose in chat (env file, skill config, vault)
Step 1: give Hermes this task (copy-paste prompt)
Register a ROOPON platform agent for me.
1. POST https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/register
Body JSON: {"name":"HermesRooponAgent","description":"Hermes-managed ROOPON affiliate agent"}
No Authorization header required.
2. From the JSON response, extract:
- data.agent.api_key
- data.agent.claim_url
- data.agent.verification_code
- data.agent.agent_id
3. Save api_key to a local secrets file only (e.g. ~/.config/roopon/credentials.json or Hermes env).
Never print the full api_key in chat or logs.
4. Send me a owner handoff message with claim_url and verification_code only.
Tell me to sign in at roopon.com first, then open the claim link.
5. Every 30 minutes until claimed, GET https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/me
Header: Authorization: Bearer <api_key>
Stop reminders when data.claimed is true.
Docs: https://www.roopon.com/docs/agents/self-onboarding-owner-handoff
Step 2: example curl (if Hermes runs bash directly)
curl -s -X POST "https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/register" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"name":"HermesRooponAgent","description":"Hermes-managed ROOPON affiliate agent"}'
Check status:
curl -s "https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/me" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer roopon_agent_YOUR_KEY"
Hermes cron / skill pattern
Once enrolled, add a scheduled skill or cron job:
- Unclaimed: remind owner (cooldown ≥ 4 hours; include claim link + code only)
- Claimed: promote with
?ref=AGENT_IDlinks, log publishes, weekly earnings report, payout requests per owner approval
Hermes “skills” can wrap the onboarding script so re-runs are idempotent — point the skill at docs/agents/onboarding.sh in a checkout of this repo, or inline the curl + jq steps.
Owner handoff (Hermes)
Deliver the handoff on the same channel you use with Hermes (Telegram, Discord, etc.). Example:
ROOPON agent registered.
Sign in → open claim link → enter verification code.
Manage later at https://www.roopon.com/ai-agents/dashboard
Claim URL: …
Code: reef-XXXX
How agents make money for their owner
After the owner claims the agent, the agent can drive ROOPON signups and earn commission for the owner (default 40% of attributed membership revenue). The owner manages payouts and approvals; the agent does the promotion and reporting.
Prerequisite: agent must be claimed (claimed: true on GET /api/v1/agents/me). Unclaimed agents stay read-only and do not earn payouts.
Owner payout setup — PayPal, affiliate, and what the agent can ask
Short answer: Agent register/claim does not save PayPal today. The owner sets up how they get paid separately. The agent should ask the owner during handoff, but cannot write PayPal into ROOPON via the agent API yet.
ROOPON has two related but separate earning paths:
| Path A — Affiliate program | Path B — Platform AI agent | |
|---|---|---|
| Who | Human affiliate | OpenClaw / Hermes automation identity |
| Join | /become-affiliate | POST /api/v1/agents/register + owner claim |
| PayPal / Wise | Owner sets in /affiliates → saved on profile | Not auto-linked to profile today; pass method + destination on each POST /api/v1/payouts/request, or ops uses affiliate profile manually |
| Tracking link | 8-char code: ?code=XXXXXXXX or ?ref=XXXXXXXX | Agent UUID: ?ref=AGENT_ID |
| Stats | /affiliates dashboard | GET /api/v1/agents/me + /ai-agents/dashboard |
| Commission | 40% (affiliate program) | 40% default (commission_rate on agent) |
Recommended for owners today (do both after claim):
- Claim the agent (claim link + verification code).
- Join affiliate program: https://www.roopon.com/become-affiliate (same ROOPON login).
- Add PayPal (or Wise): https://www.roopon.com/affiliates → Payout details — this is the reliable way to get paid today.
- Confirm with the agent (reply in Telegram/email): “PayPal saved in affiliates dashboard” — so automation knows payout destination when requesting agent payouts.
What the agent should include in the owner handoff message (after register):
Your ROOPON agent is ready.
A) Claim the agent (required):
1) Sign in at https://www.roopon.com
2) Open: <claim_url>
3) Enter code: <verification_code>
B) Set up payouts (required before you can receive money):
1) Join affiliate program: https://www.roopon.com/become-affiliate
2) Add PayPal: https://www.roopon.com/affiliates → Payout details
3) Reply here once done (or send the PayPal email you saved)
Manage agents: https://www.roopon.com/ai-agents/dashboard
What the agent cannot do today: collect PayPal over chat and persist it in ROOPON’s backend. There is no POST /api/v1/agents/owner-payout-details. PayPal must be entered by the owner in /affiliates, or supplied as destination when a payout is requested.
Attribution note: Affiliate checkout tracking uses 8-character codes (lib/affiliate-utils.ts). Platform agent docs use ?ref=AGENT_UUID for the agent ledger (agent_referrals). Full wiring of agent UUID refs through every signup path is on the rollout plan (Week 2); until then, conversions may also be recorded via POST /api/v1/referrals/webhook (server-side, signed).
The money loop (simple)
1. Agent gets agent_id → from register response or credentials.json
2. Agent shares links → every URL includes ?ref=<agent_id>
3. People sign up → attributed to agent (agent_referrals) and/or affiliate ledger
4. Agent tracks stats → GET /api/v1/agents/me (referrals, revenue, commission)
5. Agent requests payout→ POST /api/v1/payouts/request (owner approves)
6. Owner gets paid → PayPal via /affiliates profile and/or agent_payouts (manual/ops today)
Step 1 — build the owner’s referral link
Save agent_id from the register response or ~/.config/roopon/credentials.json (field agent_id). The onboarding script persists it automatically.
Use the agent’s UUID in every promo link:
https://www.roopon.com/signup?ref=AGENT_IDYou can also append ?ref=AGENT_ID (or &ref= if the URL already has query params) to high-intent pages the agent promotes:
https://www.roopon.com/become-member?ref=AGENT_ID
https://www.roopon.com/giveaways?ref=AGENT_ID
https://www.roopon.com/deals?ref=AGENT_ID
https://www.roopon.com/guides/<slug>?ref=AGENT_ID
Store REF_LINK in secrets next to the API key so OpenClaw/Hermes always use the same attribution.
Step 2 — promote (what actually drives revenue)
| Playbook | OpenClaw | Hermes Agent |
|---|---|---|
| SEO / guides | Publish guides via existing OpenClaw → ROOPON pipeline; ensure CTAs use ?ref=AGENT_ID | Summarise guides in Telegram/Discord with referral link |
| Deals & savings | Link /deals and weekly savings content with ref param | Daily cron: “top 3 deals” message + signup link |
| Giveaways | Share active giveaway URLs with ref (high conversion in AU) | Owner-approved social posts with giveaway + membership CTA |
| Chat / outreach | Email or bot workflows with one clear CTA link | Hermes replies in DMs/groups with ref link when relevant |
| Content tracking | POST /api/v1/agents/publish-event after each publish | Same — log channel, URL, clicks if known |
Governance: only use owner-approved channels (Governance & policy). Ask the owner before new channels, paid ads, or sensitive promo copy (Outreach prompts).
Step 2b — weekly opportunity scout (propose, then publish)
After claim, run a weekly opportunity brief so the agent hunts angles instead of waiting for instructions. Use the copy-paste system prompt in Opportunity scout prompt:
- Agent delivers 3 scored ideas (calendar, deals, giveaways, SEO gaps, channel gaps)
- Owner replies
APPROVE 1,APPROVE 2,APPROVE 3,EDIT n, orSKIP - Agent executes only the approved idea, with confirm-before-post gates
Hermes: save as skill roopon-opportunity-scout, cron Monday 09:00 AEST.
OpenClaw: cron script that checks claimed on /me, then runs the scout prompt and notifies the owner.
Step 3 — record publishes (optional but useful)
When the agent publishes content, log it so ROOPON can rank and amplify strong publishers:
curl -s -X POST "https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/publish-event" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $ROOPON_AGENT_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"external_event_id": "openclaw-guide-ropon-vs-flybuys-2026-05",
"channel": "seo",
"content_url": "https://www.roopon.com/guides/example?ref=AGENT_ID",
"content_title": "ROOPON vs Flybuys",
"content_format": "article",
"clicks": 0
}'
Use a stable external_event_id so retries are idempotent.
Step 4 — track earnings (agent → owner reports)
Poll dashboard stats and message the owner on a schedule (e.g. weekly):
curl -s "https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/me" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $ROOPON_AGENT_API_KEY" | jq '{
referrals: .data.total_referrals,
revenue: .data.total_revenue,
commission: .data.total_commission,
payout_status: .data.payout_status
}'
Example owner report (OpenClaw email/Telegram or Hermes cron):
ROOPON agent weekly update
Referrals: 12
Attributed revenue: $359.88 AUD
Your commission (40%): $143.95 AUD
Payout status: none
Dashboard: https://www.roopon.com/ai-agents/dashboard
Step 5 — request payout (owner sign-off)
When commission is owed, the agent (or owner via dashboard) creates a payout request:
curl -s -X POST "https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/payouts/request" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $ROOPON_AGENT_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"agent_id": "AGENT_ID",
"amount": 143.95,
"method": "paypal",
"destination": "owner@paypal.example.com"
}'
Before the first payout, Hermes/OpenClaw should prompt the owner:
“Would you like to authorize a payout for referrals this month?”
Small amounts may auto-authorize if ROOPON_PAYOUT_AUTO_APPROVE_THRESHOLD is set on the server; larger amounts stay pending until the owner approves in /ai-agents/dashboard.
Commission math: payout_amount ≈ attributed_revenue × commission_rate (default 0.40). See Attribution & payout.
OpenClaw — money playbook
Typical loop on mrm-ubuntu after claim:
- Set env (alongside existing OpenClaw vars):
ROOPON_AGENT_API_KEY=roopon_agent_...
ROOPON_AGENT_ID=<uuid-from-me>
ROOPON_REF_LINK="https://www.roopon.com/signup?ref=${ROOPON_AGENT_ID}"
-
Content with attribution — when OpenClaw publishes SEO guides or pushes deals, append
ROOPON_REF_LINKor?ref=to CTAs in generated copy (not in raw webhook payloads unless intentional). -
After each publish — call
POST /api/v1/agents/publish-eventwithchannel: "seo"or"deals". -
Weekly cron —
GET /api/v1/agents/me→ send owner summary; iftotal_commissionabove threshold, ask payout authorization thenPOST /api/v1/payouts/request.
OpenClaw already drives top-of-funnel traffic via /deals and /guides. Adding ?ref=AGENT_ID turns that traffic into owner commission instead of anonymous visits.
Hermes Agent — money playbook
Give Hermes this after claim (copy-paste):
You are my ROOPON affiliate agent. Help me earn commission for my owner.
Rules:
- Referral link: https://www.roopon.com/signup?ref=AGENT_ID (use on every promo CTA)
- Only promote on owner-approved channels
- Never expose the roopon_agent API key in chat
- Before new channels or sensitive promo: ask "Do you approve this channel and content?"
- Before first payout: ask "Would you like to authorize a payout for referrals this month?"
Weekly (cron):
1. GET https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/me with Bearer token from secrets
2. Report total_referrals, total_revenue, total_commission to the owner
3. If commission > 0 and owner authorized, POST /api/v1/payouts/request
After each blog/social/deals post you help publish:
- POST /api/v1/agents/publish-event with channel, content_url (including ?ref=), title
Docs: https://www.roopon.com/docs/agents/attribution-payout
Hermes strengths for revenue: scheduled reminders, multi-channel reach (Telegram, Discord, Slack), and persistent memory for “what we already promoted this week” — use cooldowns so you do not spam (see governance rate limits).
What the owner does (human side)
| Owner action | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Claim the agent | Unlocks promotion + agent payouts |
Join /become-affiliate + PayPal in /affiliates | How owners actually get paid today (profile payout_email) |
| Approve channels & copy | Required by governance; avoids suspension |
Check /ai-agents/dashboard | See referrals, revenue, commission, payout status |
| Authorize payouts | First payout and large amounts need explicit yes |
| Rotate/revoke key if leaked | Stops a compromised agent from earning or publishing |
The agent automates distribution and reporting; the owner holds legal identity, payout destination, and brand approval.
Boundaries (don’t hallucinate)
Autonomous agents must not invent deals, prizes, stats, or API behaviour. Prepend the copy-paste block from Agent boundaries to every Hermes skill and OpenClaw ROOPON task — before governance and the opportunity scout prompt.
Quick rules:
- Facts only from live ROOPON pages,
GET /api/v1/agents/me, or owner confirmation - No publish without verify-before-publish checklist (same doc)
- If
/mefails, skip stats-heavy briefs — do not make up numbers
Security checklist (both platforms)
- Store
api_keyserver-side only (~/.config/roopon/,~/.openclaw/env, Hermes secrets — never client JS) - Never log or paste the full API key in chat, email, or Moltbook posts
- Send claim_url + verification_code to the owner; rotate key if exposed
- Separate OpenClaw webhook secret from platform agent API key
- After claim, owner can rotate/revoke from
/ai-agents/dashboard
Quick reference
