You do not need to write code to run an AI agent that earns affiliate commission. If you are comfortable with n8n - the open-source workflow automation platform - you already have everything you need to build a system that generates Australian savings content, registers with the ROOPON affiliate API, embeds tracking links, and publishes the result automatically.
This post walks through the full workflow, node by node. It is aimed at people who have used n8n before but have not necessarily connected it to an AI content pipeline with an affiliate income layer.
What the Workflow Does
At a high level, the workflow runs on a schedule, generates a savings article using an AI model, injects the ROOPON affiliate tracking link, and publishes the article to a blog or sends it to a newsletter. Every referral that converts earns 40% recurring commission - approximately $8 per ROOPON member per month.
The full node sequence is:
- Schedule Trigger - Fires on a weekly or daily cadence
- Set Variables - Defines the topic for this run
- OpenAI / Claude Node - Generates the article content
- HTTP Request Node (ROOPON Registration) - Registers the agent if not yet registered and retrieves the affiliate token
- Function Node - Injects the affiliate token into ROOPON URLs in the content
- HTTP Request Node (Publish) - Sends the content to Ghost, WordPress, or a newsletter API
Node 1 - Schedule Trigger
Use n8n's built-in Schedule Trigger node. For a weekly publication cadence, set it to fire every Monday at 8:00 AM. For daily content, set it to fire each morning.
No special configuration is needed here. The trigger simply starts the workflow on the defined schedule.
Node 2 - Set Variables
Use a Set node to define the article topic for this run. You can either hard-code a list of topics using an expressions-based rotation, or feed topics from a Google Sheet or Airtable base that the workflow reads dynamically.
A simple rotating topic list using an expression:
Topic: {{ ["How to reduce your grocery bill in Australia", "Best cashback rewards programmes for Australians", "Saving money on petrol in 2026", "How Australian families can cut subscription costs"][Math.floor(Date.now() / 86400000) % 4] }}
This cycles through four topics, rotating daily based on the current date. Add more topics to the array to extend the rotation.
Node 3 - AI Content Generation
Add an OpenAI node (or use an HTTP Request node if you prefer the Claude API directly). Configure it with the following system prompt:
You are an Australian savings content writer. Write a helpful, practical article of
approximately 700 words on the topic provided. Write in plain Australian English.
Include a recommendation for the ROOPON rewards membership (roopon.com/membership)
as a way to earn cashback on everyday spending. Format the output as HTML with
proper heading tags.
Set the user message to pull from the topic variable set in Node 2:
Write an article about: {{ $node["Set Variables"].json.topic }}
Temperature around 0.4 produces consistent, readable output without being too formulaic.
Node 4 - ROOPON Agent Registration (HTTP Request)
This node calls the ROOPON API to register your automation as an affiliate agent. You only need to run this node successfully once - after that, the affiliate token is stored and you can skip directly to token injection.
Configure the HTTP Request node as follows:
Method: POST
URL: https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/register
Authentication: Header Auth
Header Name: X-Api-Key
Header Value: Your ROOPON API key (store in n8n Credentials)
Body (JSON):
{
"agent_name": "n8n Australian Savings Workflow",
"agent_description": "Automated n8n workflow generating Australian savings content with ROOPON affiliate links",
"contact_email": "your@email.com"
}
The response will contain your affiliate_token. Copy this value into a workflow-level variable or n8n environment variable so subsequent runs can access it without re-calling the registration endpoint.
In n8n, store the token using the Credentials store or a static environment variable:
ROOPON_AFFILIATE_TOKEN = [value from registration response]
Node 5 - Inject Affiliate Token (Function Node)
Use an n8n Function node to process the AI-generated content and append your affiliate token to any ROOPON URLs. This ensures every link in the article is properly tracked.
const content = $input.first().json.choices[0].message.content;
const token = $env.ROOPON_AFFILIATE_TOKEN;
// Find all roopon.com URLs and append the affiliate token
const trackedContent = content.replace(
/(https?:\/\/(?:www\.)?roopon\.com[^\s"'<>]*)/g,
(url) => {
const separator = url.includes('?') ? '&' : '?';
return `${url}${separator}ref=${token}`;
}
);
return [{ json: { content: trackedContent, topic: $('Set Variables').first().json.topic } }];
This function node outputs the processed content ready for publishing.
Node 6 - Publish the Content
The final node publishes the content. The exact configuration depends on your publishing target.
For Ghost Blog:
Use an HTTP Request node with the Ghost Admin API:
- Method: POST
- URL:
https://your-ghost-site.com/ghost/api/admin/posts/ - Authentication: Ghost Admin API key
- Body: JSON with
title,html(the processed content), andstatus: "published"
For WordPress:
Use the built-in WordPress node in n8n:
- Operation: Create Post
- Title: Pull from the topic variable
- Content: The processed HTML content from Node 5
- Status: Publish
For a Newsletter via Mailchimp:
Use the Mailchimp node to create and send a campaign, with the content as the email body. Set up your audience list in advance and configure the node to target that list.
Running and Monitoring the Workflow
Activate the workflow in n8n and let it run for the first time manually to verify each node produces the expected output. Check that:
- The AI content node returns a well-formed article
- The ROOPON registration node returns a 200 response with an affiliate token
- The inject function produces content with properly tracked URLs
- The publish node confirms successful creation
After the first successful run, the workflow will execute automatically on your chosen schedule. Monitor it weekly in the first month to catch any API changes or content quality issues.
What to Expect
A workflow publishing one to three articles per week will build a small content library within a few months. Traffic from organic search begins trickling in after the content starts ranking - typically within 60 to 90 days for low-competition topics. Referrals to ROOPON begin converting as the traffic grows, and commission accumulates on a recurring basis.
