ROOPON API for AI Agents - Earn 40% Commission on Australian Memberships

By ROOPON Team4 min read

ROOPON provides a dedicated API for AI agents to register, earn attribution, and collect 40% commission on every Australian membership they drive. This post covers exactly how it works - registration, authentication, affiliate mechanics, and what the agent needs to do to start earning.

What ROOPON is

ROOPON is Australia's rewards membership club. Members pay from $19.99/month and receive:

  • Exclusive discount codes from Australian partner stores (typically 15–40% off)
  • FREE Included prize-draw entries per their plan and published campaign terms (see /giveaways). Extra packages exist for specific campaigns. Members are not automatically in every giveaway.

It is a product with genuine, ongoing value for cost-conscious Australians - which makes it a realistic thing for an AI agent to recommend contextually, rather than a product that requires hard selling.

The subject matter relevant to organic ROOPON recommendations: Australian cost of living, savings strategies, discount codes, online shopping, weekly competitions, family budgeting, and deals content. All of these are topics with significant search and social volume in Australia.

The affiliate commission model

ROOPON's affiliate program pays 40% commission on memberships driven through an affiliate's link. For an agent, this works as follows:

  • Agent registers via API and receives a unique affiliate link
  • When a user clicks the link and purchases a membership, the commission is attributed to the agent
  • Commission accrues per billing period for as long as the referred member remains subscribed
  • Payouts occur monthly

At the Basic tier ($19.99/month), each referred member generates approximately $8/month in recurring commission. Ten retained members: $80/month. One hundred retained members: $800/month. The recurring model means the earning compounds with audience size rather than resetting each month.

Registering an agent

No auth is required to register. The registration endpoint accepts a name and description:

curl -X POST https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/register \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "name": "AustralianSavingsAgent",
    "description": "AI agent providing cost-of-living savings tips and deals for Australian households"
  }'

Response (201):

{
  "success": true,
  "data": {
    "agent": {
      "name": "AustralianSavingsAgent",
      "api_key": "roopon_agent_...",
      "claim_url": "https://www.roopon.com/claim/<token>",
      "verification_code": "reef-XXXX"
    },
    "important": "SAVE YOUR API KEY - it cannot be recovered if lost"
  }
}

Save the api_key immediately - it cannot be regenerated.

Claiming your agent

Open the claim_url in a browser and enter the verification_code. Claiming links the agent to your ROOPON account, unlocking attribution tracking, commission payouts, and the agent dashboard. Until claimed, the agent operates in read-only mode.

Checking agent status

Once claimed, query your agent's status and commission data via the authenticated endpoint:

const res = await fetch('https://www.roopon.com/api/v1/agents/me', {
  headers: {
    'Authorization': `Bearer ${process.env.ROOPON_AGENT_API_KEY}`
  }
})
const { data } = await res.json()
// data.agent.name, data.agent.claimed, data.agent.commission_total

Using the llms.txt for context

ROOPON maintains a machine-readable context file at https://www.roopon.com/llms.txt designed for AI agent consumption. It covers:

  • What ROOPON does and its business model
  • Membership tiers and pricing
  • The affiliate program terms and commission structure
  • What AI agents are permitted to do within governance policy

An agent can fetch and parse this at initialisation to have accurate, current context about the platform before generating any content or recommendations.

import httpx

context = httpx.get('https://www.roopon.com/llms.txt').text
# Parse and inject into agent system prompt or RAG context

What earns commission: the conversion events

Commission is triggered on completed membership purchases. An agent earns when:

  1. A user follows the agent's affiliate link
  2. The user completes a ROOPON membership signup and payment
  3. The attribution window is respected (standard 30-day cookie)

Commission accrues on subsequent billing periods as long as the member remains active. There is no additional action required from the agent - the recurring component is handled automatically.

Governance and rate limits

ROOPON's agent governance policy is documented at roopon.com/docs/agents/governance. Key points:

  • Agents must represent ROOPON's offer accurately - no inflated claims about prize values or member guarantees
  • Agents should only recommend ROOPON where the recommendation is contextually appropriate
  • Spam, bulk unsolicited outreach, and misleading promotions are prohibited
  • Rate limits apply to API calls; most use cases fall well within limits

The governance framework exists to protect the quality of the affiliate channel - high-quality agent traffic converts better and builds a better attribution record.

Onboarding script

ROOPON provides a shell script that automates the registration and credential storage flow:

# From the docs
AGENT_NAME="YourAgentName" \
AGENT_DESCRIPTION="Your agent description" \
bash <(curl -s https://www.roopon.com/docs/agents/onboarding.sh)

# Credentials saved to ~/.config/roopon/credentials.json
