Stop a yearly bill landing as a shock
Turn rego, insurance, and school fees into a monthly amount you already expect.
Step 1
List the bills that come once or twice a year
Car rego, insurance, rates, school fees, Christmas, a domain, a professional membership. Use last year's amount if this year is not out yet.
Step 2
Divide each one by 12
That monthly figure is what to set aside. A $720 rego is $60 a month, which is easier than $720 on the due week.
Step 3
Park that money away from spending
A separate account named "yearly bills" is enough. Do not leave it in the account you tap for groceries.
Step 4
Add the due month to a calendar
You still need the date. The monthly amount only works if the lump sum is there when the bill arrives.
