Split rent and bills without the argument
Agree the split once, then use the same numbers every month.
Step 1
Write the split before the first bill
Equal, or by room, or by income. Write it down. A verbal "we'll sort it" is how the argument starts in month three.
Step 2
One person pays the provider, the others pay that person
Rent, power, and NBN each need one payer. Chasing four direct debits is how someone gets marked late.
Step 3
Settle on a set day
The day after the main payday in the house. Send the amount, not a reminder a week later.
Step 4
Keep a one-line record
Date, who paid, amount, what for. That is the whole system. The splitter is that record when the house has more than two people.
The tool that keeps this going
Why ROOPON
Shared Expense Splitter keeps who paid what, so the group chat is not the ledger.
The lowest cost plan that includes every tool on this page is Ultimate at $99.99/month. Memberships also include partner discount codes. You can pay monthly or yearly, and you can cancel anytime.
