Save for a date, not a vague "one day"
Turn a goal into an amount per pay, and check you are on it.
Step 1
Name the goal and the date
A holiday in December, a bond by June, a buffer of one month's bills. A goal without a date does not get paid.
Step 2
Divide the gap by the number of pays
If you need $2,000 more and you have 10 fortnights, that is $200 a fortnight. If that number does not fit, move the date or the amount. Do not pretend.
Step 3
Move it on payday
Automatic transfer the morning you are paid. Waiting until "there is some left" means there is none left.
Step 4
Leave the saved money out of the spending account
A separate account is the point. Seeing it in the everyday balance is how it gets spent.
The tool that keeps this going
Why ROOPON
Savings Goal Planner turns the date and the amount into a per-pay figure. Compound Interest shows how a regular amount grows. It is a projection, not a promise of returns.
The lowest cost plan that includes every tool on this page is Ultimate at $99.99/month. Memberships also include partner discount codes. You can pay monthly or yearly, and you can cancel anytime.
