See what the car actually costs, not just the repayment
Add fuel, rego, insurance, and servicing to the loan before you decide.
Step 1
Price a week of fuel from your real kilometres
Kilometres you drive, litres per 100km from the sticker or your last tanks, and the price per litre you actually pay. A commute figure from a forum will be wrong.
Step 2
Add the yearly extras
Rego, insurance, servicing, tyres, and a parking or toll cost if you pay one. Divide by 12 and put it next to the loan repayment.
Step 3
Compare two loans on the same car
Same price, same deposit, different rate or term. A longer term can lower the month and raise the total. Look at both.
Step 4
Decide from the monthly total
Repayment plus fuel plus the yearly extras divided by 12. If that number does not fit before the next payday, the car does not fit.
